We are glad to announce a new milestone for our organization: we have exceeded 100,000 pages of legal files for lawsuits included in our Title IX Lawsuits Database. The current exact count is 107,096, which does not include electronic/text-only docket entries. These 100,000+ pages are spread across 428 file types. Of course, some types are more important than others. This is a breakdown of the major file categories we track, rounded to the nearest thousand:

  • Complaint-like files – 40,000 pages. This includes Complaints, Petitions for Writ of Mandate, Article 78 Petitions, etc.
  • Exhibits – 20,000 pages
  • Orders and judicial opinions – 18,000 pages. Most of these are orders on critical motions, such as motions to dismiss, summary judgment, injunctive relief, etc. We of course include appellate court decisions in this tally.
  • Motions of all types – 15,000 pages
  • Miscellaneous filings – 14,000 pages

As you can see, we prioritize including files that we consider foundational to understanding the background of each lawsuit as well as how it ended. We consider the file system one of the stronger points of our database resource, as organizing such a massive number of files and creating the means to locate them efficiently is no simple task.

This announcement follows closely on another recent announcement that over 600 lawsuits have been filed by respondents to Title IX-related accusations. The current lawsuit tally in our database is 627.

We thank everyone who has been supportive of our work, and we look forward to announcing more soon.
