We’ve expanded the scope of our Title IX Lawsuits Database to include a new data category: “Plaintiff Demographics.” You will now be able to search and sort all ~650 (and future) lawsuits by:

  • The plaintiff’s occupational status, e.g., whether they are (or were) an accused student, school employee, or non-student.
  • The plaintiff’s race/ethnicity, e.g., Caucasian, African American, Hispanic/Latino, and so forth.
  • The plaintiff’s sex.
  • Whether the plaintiff is an immigrant / foreign student.

We have also included demographic data for lawsuits that include multiple plaintiffs. Where demographic data was unobtainable, we marked such data as unknown (“Race unknown,” “Status unknown,” “Sex unknown”).

Those signed up to our database will see the option to search by Plaintiff Demographics when Advanced Search is enabled. Here is a screenshot of the search engine.

Additionally, demographic data is now available on each lawsuit’s “Detail” page, just below the plaintiff’s name. Here is an example in Byron v. University of Utah et al.

Using this data, we can get an approximation of the demographic makeup of these lawsuits in general. Please expect a special announcement on this to follow soon.
