As we do every month, we’re recapping key events from last months Title IX litigation, advocacy, and policy for those on our mailing list. At least five new lawsuits were filed in federal court, raising our count to 819. We also saw a few truly wild stories last month. Here is October’s recap:
Jones files defamation suit against Georgetown College
Former Georgetown College president and his family (wife, daughter, & minor children) sue the college and 70+ deft’s for defamation & more (15 counts), alleging he was falsely accused of sexual assault as proxy for his handling of another case. Per the complaint, Jones and his wife lost their jobs, his daughter was threatened with gang rape, and their children suffered extreme emotional distress. Added to our Title IX Lawsuits Database.
Former Annapolis High School teacher pleads guilty to sexual abuse of minor
A 39-year-old Annapolis High School teacher had a “sexual relationship” (rape) with a 15-year-old boy. When found out, she falsely accused him of multiple rapes to save herself. Her text messages were her undoing.

“Though a draft hasn’t been called up since the Vietnam War, failing to register with selective services is grounds for felony prison time, hefty fines, denial of employment (like a job with the United States Postal Service) and — on a state-by-state basis — extra tuition or all-out bans on enrolling in public colleges and universities.”

“Brett A. Sokolow, one of the nation’s most visible higher-education consultants and the president of the Association of Title IX Administrators, is being sued by a former executive at his consulting firm over allegations of tax fraud, breach of contract, and retaliation.”
Teachers Are Hard-Wired To Give Girls Better Grades, Study Says
“Researchers compared the results of standardized anonymous tests taken by almost 40,000 15 and 16-year-olds in language and math with the grades the same students were awarded in classroom tests. While the results of the anonymous tests followed the expected pattern, with girls outperforming boys in languages and boys doing better in math, in the non-anonymous classroom tests the girls scored higher in both subjects.”
