Ninth Circuit Holds Schools Are Liable for Off-Campus Misconduct

Their decision reverses the district court’s grant of summary judgment to the University. “The University [of Arizona] had control over the off-campus housing in which Bradford was living…the University’s Student Code of Conduct applied to student conduct both on campus and off-campus, and Bradford was subject to increased supervision through Player Rules specific to football players.”

New CA Bill Will Punish Men Who Fail to Win Defamation Lawsuits Against Their Alleged False Accusers

Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to sign AB 933, a bill that will reflexively punishing men with legal fees, including punitive damages, when their defamation lawsuits against false rape accusers are unsuccessful.

UC Berkeley’s Cluster Hire Eliminated 75% Of Job Applicants Based on DEI Statements

Vanderbilt University also eliminated 50-60% of  applicants in this manner; “They used Berkeley’s rubric—the one that penalizes candidates who for saying they want to ‘treat everyone the same.'”

Uber is giving Temple University $200,000 worth of free rides for students

Commendable: “The $200,000 Uber has made available to the university is thanks to an agreement with Temple’s student organization, Student Activists Against Sexual Assault.” This opportunity appears to be available to both male and female students.

College Gender Gap Starts Early and Extends Across Races

“Along every step of the pathway from 9th grade to college completion, women fare better than men. Women are more likely to graduate from high school, enroll in college, transfer from a community college to a four-year college, and complete college once enrolled.”

Wake Forest University Prevails in Summary Judgment

The opinion holds that because the accused student’s Title IX claim was substantially undermined because he and his attorney did not timely raise objections to the investigator or hearing officer during the school’s Title IX proceedings.
