Update: good news! The donation drive has reached its goal.

The First International Conference on Men’s Issues is scheduled to take place on June 26-28 in Detroit, Michigan. The speakers are advocates and academics from across the political spectrum and a broad and diverse range of backgrounds.

The organizers of the conference have performed their due diligence to obtain security for their speakers. Unfortunately, due to pervasive threats of vandalism, violence, and even death from anti-Men’s Human Rights activists, they are now being required by the host – Double Tree hotel – to pay for security for the entire hotel (view the video above for more).

This is how bad the threats have become. You may see the letter from the hotel requiring the extra security here.

This is how these things often work. Those who don’t like the message of equality for men and boys don’t show up at the conference to listen to the speakers and then have an intelligent dialog or debate. Instead they namecall, lie, slander, libel, intimidate, coerce, and threaten violence, vandalism, and death. They do this because if they were ever actually forced to confront those they oppose in an intellectual manner they would fail.

Thankfully, the organizers and speakers of this event are not taking it lying down. They are working to come up with the required security fee, and indeed have already come up with most of it. But they need your help to do the rest.

As I said before, it’s time to stop running from these thugs.

Please tell me whether the hotel would have reacted in the same way if similar threats had been made against a conference organised by a feminist, Islamist group or Christian group? I think the hotel knows what the public reaction would be if they tried.
